Official Forms

In general, Texas has very few official legal forms. This is why you will not always find a free fill-in-the-blank form for your situation.

You may be able to draft your own custom form by using a form template or drafting guide.

Court Websites. If there is an official form for a legal procedure, it is usually found on the court's or court clerk's website. We link to many in our guides.
Law Libraries. The library has many books and e-books with templates for legal forms. Texas residents can access e-books with a free library account or check out print titles from our Austin location. You can also visit a law library near you.
A Lawyer. A lawyer can help create an appropriate form for your situation. To find an attorney, see our Find a Lawyer and Legal Help guides.

This State Bar of Texas manual walks practitioners through the entire process of debt collection. Topics covered include finding debtor and debtor’s assets, repossession, prejudgment remedies and liens, bankruptcy, as well as trial procedure.

Chapter 7 includes various forms for debt collection procedures.
Texas transaction guide, legal forms
Chapter 65F in Volume 15 discusses debt collection and includes several sample letters, including demand for payment by a creditor. This electronic copy can only be checked out from home by government employees, but librarians may be able to provide a short excerpt to library patrons upon request.

Fair debt collection
This title covers the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, including the types of transactions that are covered, what rights consumers have, defenses, and counterclaims. It also looks at other federal claims, tort remedies, and other state remedies. It contains several appendices that include sample complaints, discovery, and trial documents.

Chapter 62 includes procedural forms for suits involving debt collection and credit agencies. Chapter 152 includes forms for debt claim suits in justice court.
West's Texas forms [print book]
Volume 1 covers Creditors Remedies and Debtors Rights and includes sample forms to file suit and enforce a judgment.
