About Westlaw & Lexis Advance

Westlaw and Lexis Advance are legal databases available when you visit the library.

Westlaw

The library's subscription includes:

  • state and federal statutes and regulations
  • historical Texas statutes dating back to 1987
  • state and federal appellate case law
  • proposed & enacted state legislation and regulations
  • practice guides like the Texas Practice Series and O'Connor's Rules & Commentaries
  • legal encyclopedias and dictionaries like Texas Jurisprudence, American Jurisprudence, and Black's Law Dictionary
  • legal form templates like West's Texas Forms, Texas Forms Legal & Business, Texas Jurisprudence Pleading & Practice Forms, and O'Connor's Texas Forms

Lexis Advance

The library's subscription includes:

  • state and federal statutes and regulations
  • state and federal appellate case law, including Shepard's Reports for appellate history
  • treatises, practice guides, and legal form templates including Matthew Bender titles like Dorsaneo's Texas Litigation GuideTexas Criminal Practice Guide, and Moore's Federal Practice
  • James Publishing titles like Texas Estate Planning and Texas DTPA Forms & Practice
  • jury instructions like Texas Civil Pattern Jury Charges and Texas State Jury Charge Filings

Only at the Library

Can I use Westlaw or Lexis Advance remotely?

No. These databases are not available remotely, but you are welcome to visit the library and use them in person. 

Can I reserve a computer?

Yes. You can contact us directly to make a reservation or log in with your library account to make one.

Reservations are not required. Computers are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. 

Your library account must be in good standing to make a reservation. We accept reservations in accordance with our computer use policy.

I can't visit the library in person. What are my options?

Your local law library may have access to one or both of these databases. See a list of Texas law libraries to find one near you.

Texas residents can sign up for a library account online and use our remote resources for legal research: 

  • Fastcase is an excellent alternative database to Westlaw or Lexis Advance for case law research. 
  • You can access a wide variety of e-books and databases from home. See our Digital Collection for details. 
  • Our legal FAQs and guides offer information and resources about many common legal topics.
