One of the other forms of gambling allowed under Texas law is wagering on animal racing, specifically horse and greyhound racing. It is officially referred to as pari-mutuel wagering. A person can attend a race in-person or see a simulcast of a race being run at another Texas racetrack.
State law prohibits wagers from being placed online or over the telephone. They must be placed in-person at the track where the race is being run or at another racetrack where the race is being simulcast. Currently, simulcasts cannot be broadcast out of state.
Texans are prohibited from wagering on races conducted outside of Texas.
For all other state laws related to animal racing, see Title 13, Subtitle A-1 of the Texas Occupations Code.
